April 14, 1912 – Renault goes down on the Titanic

There are probably very few, if any, remnants left of a certain 1912 Renault Type CB Coupe de Ville that sank to the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean after the famous ship it was being shipped on hit an iceberg on this day in 1912. William Carter bought the vehicle and planned to transport it to New York City on board the RMS Titanic. By early the next morning the cruiseliner, along with the Renault, sunk beneath the waves on the unsinkable ship’s maiden voyage. Carter and his family were rescued but the vehicle has never been located, despite many excursions that sought Titanic artifacts.
