For many car folks, a vast collection of iconic and rare cars is the dream. For one collector, who appeared to have a thing for Hudsons, the result is a hoard of classic cars for sale. In short, it's come time to clean out the stable. These barn find Hudson automobiles, along with a very rough Chrysler Airflow, can be found on Craigslist near Spokane, Washington. While the listings don't provide a whole lot of details, it's easy enough to see these are total projects. Take a look at the offerings and let us know which one you'd take home first. 1946 Hudson Super Six Pickup Truck This rare Hudson truck, pictured above and at top, is one of just 3,104...

5 sweet vans for sale on Craigslist under $4K – that run!

The first car I bought myself to actually daily drive (first bought a 1949 Plymouth as a project), was a 1983 Chevy G20 van. It's beautiful shades of brown inside and out led me to name it the Kangaroo Pouch. My friends and I soon dubbed ourselves the Kangaroo Pouch Kids. Without a doubt, it was the best $500 I ever spent on a vehicle and selling it was nothing short of regrettable. Although, I did double my money. Anyway, as I sit here reminiscing about the days gone by, I find myself cruising Craigslist in search of my past, hoping to find my future. Let's see if anything I've come across scrambles memories of road trips, concerts or young love for you. That said, I'm going to take a wild guess that some of you may have lost those memories in a hazy fog. OK, enough, let's check out thes...

Dusty & Rusty – 1934 Chevrolet Six coupe for Sale – $12K

The dusty & rusty feature on This Day in Automotive History is generally reserved for vehicles listed for under $10 grand. I had to make an exception for this 1934 Chevrolet Standard Six found on Craigslist near St. Louis for $12,000. More often then not, I find myself questioning the high pricing of cars that so obviously need, well, just about everything in this case. While I would bet you could haggle on this to get it under $10,000, I don't know that the tag on this is too far unjust. As trends in the auto restoration, rebuilding and hot rod industries sway, so to do prices. With 1950s style hot rods and The Race of Gentlemen trending upward, steel like this is becoming a hot commodity. Alas, hot rodding is all about personal preference. So if you drug this home, what would it loo...

Aging hot rod -1946 Plymouth – $8,500

As with all major automakers, Plymouth returned to automobile production following World War II using pre-war designs. The 1946 models were the first post war Mopars to hit the market. Chrysler Corporation, as with most other automakers, wouldn't release an all new vehicle until 1949. This car comes from that hazy post-war period of auto production, and being a 1946, it's an early edition. Originally equipped with a 218 straight six and a three on the tree, somewhere down the line this old hot rod received a Chevy 350/350 transplant. Though someone put a lot of work into this car, it's now showing its age. Listed on Craigslist near Missoula, Montana for $8,500, this car offers a chance to drive as is, or are you looking to give it some love to light a new fire under (or on) its hood? F...

Dusty & Rusty – 1968 Buick Wildcat – $5,500

Full-size luxury was in full swing by the end of the 1960s, as represented by this 1968 Buick Wildcat custom for sale on Craigslist near Atlanta. The Wildcat first hit the Buick lineup as a submodel of the Invicta. The next year it earned its own spot and remained in production through 1970. Our feature car has a running 430 cubic inch V8 that when new would have 360 hp that could power the car to a top speed of 132 mph. This one, well, it needs a bit of work before it does any sort of cruising, but it does move under its own power. Let's take a closer look. Buick Wildcat 430 V8 Here's that rumbling Buick V8. The seller states it has less than 200 miles on a recent rebuild, but it isn't quite ready for the road. New exhaust is the primary cause for concern, according to the ad. ...

Dusty & Rusty – Herd of Metropolitans for sale – $500 to $3,000 each

The Metropolitan is an interesting little car, and with a wheel base shorter than a VW, little it is. Though badged as an American Nash, Hudson, and even as its own sub-brand of AMC, the Metropolitan has a strong English accent. After initial design work and protyping was completed in Kenosha, WI, Nash executives realized it'd be too expensive to build from scratch. They contracted with England's Austin to build the car, using European underpinnings that'd help bring the cost down further. For the first time, a North American designed car, meant for the North American market, had assembly completed outside of the US. The goal to save money worked, and the vehicle destined to be American's "second car" began rolling out of English factories in October 1953. It seems this seller had ...

(Not so) Dusty & Rusty – 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe – $6,500

Jay Leno once said that his parents brought him home from the hospital in a 1949 Plymouth following his birth. Considering his car collection, It's surprising that he doesn't have one, though he does have a 1950 Plymouth Suburban. Perhaps this 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe for sale on Craigslist in Northern Mississippi for $6,500 could be the crown jewel of his collection? Maybe I'm a little biased. Why? I happen to have one of these cars. T'was my first ride, actually (thanks, parents!). Mine has been an intermittent restoration project for nearly 20 years, though it does run and drive. It's even the car in this site's logo. Where were we.... According to the seller, this one isn't perfect, but it "runs like a sewing machine." Does this coupe thread your needle? Plymouth, along with t...

Dusty & Rusty – 1966 Chrysler 300 For Sale – $5,000

Sometimes you need muscle, sometimes style. This has a bit of both. The original Chrysler 300 hit the market in 1955 as personal luxury car that focused on performance. The first of these low production cars had a C-300 badge in '55. The following year they became the 300B, in '57 the 300C and so on. The letter series skipped "I" and ultimately ended with the 300L in 1965. A non-letter series 300 came about in 1962 as a baby brother to the alpha cars, of which prodution continued through 1971. What we have for sale here is a 1966 Chrysler 300, the first year since its inception that the 300 did not feature an alphanumeric badge. This example is located on Milwaukee Craigslist for $5,000 and "ran when parked," everyone's favorite thing to hear when buying an old car. Ran when parked - ...

1968 Ford Galaxie 500 convertible – $7,000

If there was a certification class for Craigslist car browsing excellence, I think I would ace the course. I spend way too much time traveling the country, and sometimes the world, in search of four wheeled deals. All without leaving my home office, of course. Though I prefer to showcase cars on this site that haven't seen the light of day in ages, this clean 1968 Ford Galaxie convertible begged me for a feature. It's currently listed for $7,000 in Carrollton, Virginia, a price that is more than half that of NADA guide's average retail listing of $17,710. Now, I don't know how many people are paying almost 20 grand for a Ford Galaxie, but $7K for this topless V8 powered, stick shift cruiser seems more than fair. Do I have your attention? In 1968 the Galaxie received a face lift, sh...

Dusty & Rusty – 5 running trucks under $5K

This selection of dusty and rusty American pickups fall between the years of 1969 and 1974 and cover the Big Three. All were found on Craigslist and appeared to be available at the time of writing. Check the link on each description if you're interested! I really dig this era of trucks, as it was a transition period for pickups. During this time automakers grew out of the rounded body style and were adopting a more squared off appearance. With growing interest in classic trucks, now would be a wise time to buy if you're looking for a restoration, hot rod, or other project. Alright, enough chit chat, let's see what we found. 1969 Ford F-100 This 1969 Ford F-100 falls in the middle of the fifth generation of the Ford F-Series trucks. It's also located in the middle of the USA, ju...
