Dusty & Rusty – 1934 DeSoto Airflow For Sale – $2,950

Some say the Chrysler and DeSoto Airflow, introduced in 1934, was ahead of its time, which is why sales sunk. Others blame production line faults for being unable to fulfill a large number of initial orders. Whatever the case, only 13,940 DeSoto Airflow models in four different series left the factory. This was about 9,000 less cars than what DeSoto made the previous year. Chrysler didn't fare much better, with 10,833 Airflows leaving the factory. Had Chrysler not retained its more traditional CA and CB models, 1934 sales would likely have been a third of 1933's. Point being, this 1934 DeSoto Airflow for sale on LA Craigslist is a rare car. Rare isn't always a good thing. Especially for a car that needs absolutely everything to get back on the road in any form. This aerodynamic ride is li...

Dusty & Rusty – 1917 Dodge Brothers Roadster – $8,995

Horace and John Dodge are among the most fascinating automotive pioneers, at least in this author's opinion. They started a machine shop in 1900 that would supply engines, transmissions, axles and other parts to numerous automakers including Oldsmobile and Ford. The pair made a fortune from to Henry Ford before jumping ship to start their own car company, Dodge Brothers. They finished their first car in 1914 and were soon pumping out some of the most durable automobiles in America. In 1917 the Dodge Brothers introduced the Model 30, which was available in several body styles. You could opt for a coupe, sedan, Tourer, or like this one, a Roadster. This running and driving 1917 Dodge Brothers Roadster is located in Sturgis, South Dakota and is on Craigslist for $8,995. It's sad to think tha...

Dusty & Rusty – 1932 Chrysler CI – Runs & Drives – $7,600

Being alive in 1932 was tough. While the Great Depression may ring a bell, plenty of other tragedy and tribulation was playing out across the land. It was 1932 that witnessed the Lindbergh kidnapping and Adolf Hitler earning German citizenship (he was Austrian/Hungarian by birth). The same year saw four people shot dead in front of the Ford River Rogue plant when 3,000 unemployed workers marched for jobs at the site. In 1932 massive dust bowls began to ravage the central US, carrying dirt coast to coast. Among the places affected by these storms in the mid 1930s was Tulsa, Oklahoma, which is near where we find this 1932 Chrysler for sale on Craigslist for $7,600. Perhaps not everything about that year was terrible. Being a higher end car company, the six cylinder CI saved Chrysler duri...

Dusty & Rusty – 1959 Chevrolet El Camino – $4,500

Yesterday we celebrated the release of the 1959 Chevrolet El Camino, so when this one came across my screen, I had to put it on blast. Though this one appears to have gone through a blast or two of its own. Listed for $4,500 on Craigslist outside of Spokane, Washington, this ElCo is in need of some serious help. It appears to have been sitting long enough for a tree to start growing through the rear bumper. I've always been drawn to '59 Chevys. I attribute part of my affection to the fact my father drove one as his first car. If memory serves correctly, he picked up for a whopping $100. The love transcends this anecdote, for the style is so unique for the year, mostly in the rear. Those horizontal cat eye fins designed by Bob Cadaret are the perfect blend of fierceness and elegance...

Finely Finned 1957 Chevy 210 – $8,200

I am often amazed at how little info some sellers are willing to offer in a classified add for a classic car, or any car for that matter. But then, some cars really don't need an introduction. This $8,200 1957 Chevrolet 210 for sale in Chicago on Craigslist is one of them. The Tri-Five Chevrolet is as American as two part politics (I'd say apple pie but it really came from England). In any case, if you're a car person, you probably know all about the 1955 through 1957 Chevys. They came in multiple body styles and trims, and the one we have here is a mid level 210. It's not quite the workman's special, but Sinatra wouldn't be caught dead in this. Me, on the other hand, I would gladly cruise this four door '57. Let's take a look. Blue Flame Six In reality, this ad could use a bit more...

Dusty & Rusty – 1974 Chevy G10 Show Van – $2,500

Man, the '70s were a wild time. I think. I wasn't there. If I had been, I hope I would have been cruising in something like this 1974 Chevrolet Shorty Van. As the former owner of a 1983 Chevy G-Series van (the Kangaroo Pouch), I can say confidently, these are sweet. Heck, Chevy pumped 'em out of the factory virtually unchanged for 25 years because they knew how good they were. If you'd bought a first year third generation Chevy van in 1971 and traded it in for a last year third gen in 1996, you may think you're driving the same rig. OK, maybe that's a stretch, but Chevrolet had a winner with this funky people hauler. Which brings us to our featured vehicle. This Chevy G10 shorty van, listed on Craigslist outside of Des Moines, Iowa for $2,500, is a puzzle that needs to be put back toge...

Dusty & Rusty – 1966 Plymouth Barracuda V8 – $6,250

Yesterday we featured a 1970 Cuda, but today we're talking about its older sibling, the Plymouth Barracuda. Don't you hate when parents aren't creative with names? In any case, this fastback fish caught my eye for a couple reasons. First, it's a moderately priced V8 car from the mid 60s. Cool enough, right? Second, its got that rough and tumble, pulled from the shed appearance, but is near ready to roll. Let's take a closer look and find out if you're line is hooked on this 1966 Plymouth Barracuda for sale on Craigslist near Seattle for $6,250. A hair over 38,000 of these cars left assembly lines for 1966. Plymouth used the Barracuda as bait for attracting muscle buyers during horsepower wars. While the early models were a far cry from what came later, they deserve their fair share of ...

Dusty & Rusty – 1970 Plymouth Cuda – $8,900

The Plymouth Barracuda hit the market about two weeks before the Ford Mustang in 1964. While some argue that the Barracuda is the first pony car, there's a reason Ford Mustangs aren't called fish cars. Maybe it was the fact the one millionth Mustang was built within 18 months of its introduction, whereas it took almost three years for Plymouth to build just 100,000 Barracudas. Maybe. In any case, by the time that 100,000th Barracuda rolled out of the factory, America was on the verge of the muscle cars craze. Automakers scrambled to pump more horsepower out of their cars and the Barracuda became Plymouth's playing card. Just so nobody is confused, what we're highlighting here is a 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda (barely) found on Craigslist near Boston. "So don't call it a Barracuda!" all the Mopar k...

Dusty & Rusty: 1972 Malibu Chevelle for sale (runs) – $1,850

I don't think I am alone when I say one of my dream cars is a Chevy Chevelle. Alas, the model I want (1970 454 SS, duh), has skyrocketed in value over the past 10 years, making this 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu more akin to the size of my pocketbook. If you're willing to settle for a couple more doors and a few less cylinders, than this old rig might be right for you too. Let's take a peek at this four door Chevelle for sale, found on Craigslist in Aberdeen, South Dakota for a penny pinching $1,850. Introduced for 1964, the Chevrolet Chevelle was the only all new American car for the model year. With Pontiac unleashing the GTO shortly thereafter, the Chevelle marked Chevy's entrance into the emerging muscle car market when the marketing department slapped a Super Sport package on...
