Canadian stock car driver John Ryan “J.R.” Fitzpatrick was born on this day in 1988 in Cambridge, Ontario. Fitzpatrick’s career highlights include being the youngest driver to win the now defunct CASCAR Super Series championship, as he took home gold in the series’ final season in 2006 at the age of 18.Fitzpatrick was racing late model stock cars by age 13 after getting his first taste of racing in karts. In 2007 he won two awards as he entered the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, rookie of the year and most popular driver. Later that year he would make his mainstream NASCAR debut at the Telcel-Motorola Mexico 200 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, Mexico where he came in 33rd place.
