July 1, 2005 – The last Ford Thunderbird

On this day in 2005 the last Ford Thunderbird rolls off the assembly line at Ford’s Wixom, Michigan plant. The Thunderbird was developed in the years following World War II. It was released in 1955 and outsold the Chevrolet Corvette 14,000 units to just 700. The Thunderbird went through several different body styles including two seaters and four seaters. In an attempt to capitalize on buyers nostalgia ford released a retro Thunderbird into thousand two. Despite great initial sales the Thunderbird failed to meet sales expectations in the long run. Which led to its demise on this day 2005.
