July 20, 1931 – The birth of British racer Anthony Ernest “Tony” Marsh

Anthony Ernest “Tony” Marsh was a British racing driver from England born on this day in 1931. His Formula One career was short and rather unsuccessful, but he did alright

in hillclimbing events. He won the British Hill Climb Championship a record six times. Unfortunately, his Grand Prix career from 1957 to 1961 with no wins generally overshadowed his climbs. His career going up started in 1953 with Cooper. He won his first three championships in ’55, ’56 and ’57. Marsh passed away in 2009 following breathing complications.
