Jaguar’s radical Type 01 is becoming a little less mysterious. After revealing the car’s dramatic new shape and confirming that it will lead the company into an all-electric future, Jaguar has now released more technical and interior details about the production model. The new information gives a clearer picture of just how serious the company is about turning the Type 01 into more than a design statement.
More Than 1,000 PS and a New Electric Platform
The Type 01 will ride on Jaguar’s new dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture, or JEA, developed specifically for the company’s next generation of electric vehicles. Jaguar says the car will produce more than 1,000 PS, making it the most powerful production Jaguar ever built.
The company is also targeting an EPA-rated driving range of around 400 miles. Its 850-volt electrical system is designed to support 350-kW charging, which Jaguar says could add as much as 200 miles of range in about 13 minutes under ideal conditions. Jaguar is also calling the Type 01 the most aerodynamic and technologically advanced road car in its history.
The Interior Is Just as Radical
Jaguar has now shown the production interior, and it follows the same minimalist philosophy as the exterior. A long central spine runs through the cabin, visually dividing it into four individual seating spaces, while the driver sits low in a cockpit designed to feel more like a grand tourer than a traditional luxury sedan.
Much of the technology is concealed until needed, helping keep the cabin uncluttered. Since the Type 01 does not use a conventional rear window, Jaguar has also fitted a ClearSight digital rear-view display. The overall layout makes it clear that Jaguar is not trying to create an electric replacement for the old XJ. It is attempting to establish an entirely new design language.
Jaguar Explains the Name
Even the Type 01 name is part of the company’s reset. Jaguar says “Type” is a reference to historic models such as the E-Type, while the “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions. The “1” identifies the car as the first model of Jaguar’s new generation.
Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with the first customer deliveries planned for the second half of the year. Jaguar says the Type 01 was designed, engineered and will be built in the United Kingdom.
The Type 01 remains a major gamble for Jaguar, but each new detail makes the company’s strategy clearer. This is not simply a new electric model. It is intended to become the foundation of an entirely different Jaguar, from the platform and powertrain to the interior, branding and customer base. Whether buyers embrace that change will determine whether Jaguar’s reinvention works.
