Video: Exploring an Abandoned Junkyard Full of Old VWs

There are few things as exciting as stumbling across gold, though, in this case, the gold I am referring to is rust. For some reason, car folks suffer from a heart-fluttering condition related to old, dirty, rusty, musty cars. They don’t necessarily need to be rare or sought after, the mere presence of cars resting for decades seems to trigger this condition. Perhaps part of it is, when you come across a graveyard of classic cars, you really don’t know what you’ll find. You might actually strike gold, metaphorically speaking, of course, and find, say, I don’t know, the James Dean Porsche?

Perhaps a long lost Duesenberg or an abandoned GM Motorama car? What about a dusty muscle car like a Chevelle or a Plymouth Superbird? These are the kinds of cars that really ignited the barn find craze that lives on today. And it’s what inspired me to take some time to wander around this air-cooled VW junkyard somewhere in the PNW. I did, given some tales I heard, hope to find something special, but these old Volkswagens have their own stories to share. Not only do the cars speak, but we have to recognize the person who ammassed such a collection. In this case, the proprietor of a European auto shop collected these cars for parts. Since his passing some time ago, the field of cars has fallen into disarray. That said, what I did come across was honestly breathtaking. Check out this classic car junkyard:

What makes you want to take some time wandering around junkyards? Is it the rust? The thrill of what could be? Or do you just enjoy the voices that these old cars still have? Or is that just me? Maybe I should see someone.
