6 Running PreWar Cars for Sale Under $10,000! + bonus barn find

If you’ve never driven a prewar car, you don’t know what you’re missing! It takes, muscle, brut, know-how and a bit of guts if you’re trying to keep up with modern traffic. What it doesn’t take is a whole lot of money. As the classic car market continues to shift toward more contemporary models, with younger enthusiasts favoring rides from the ’80s and 90’s, those old—like, really old—old cars for sale are getting cheaper and cheaper. I took a cross country trip on Craigslist to round up a few prewar classic cars for $10,000 or less that have running engines, at least according to their sellers! Here’s what we found!

1937 Chevrolet Master Deluxe – $7,500

While rough around the edges, this vintage Chevrolet for sale has some serious appeal. It’s a two-door model and has had significant mechanical work done to keep it on the road. Apparently, everything works as it should except for the clock. It’s even had its headlights upgraded and turn signals added, making this six-cylinder ready to roll for the low price of just $7,500! You know you’ll be the coolest cat at Cars & Coffee in this! Find this classic Chevrolet for sale in Tampa on Craigslist.

1928 Nash – $4,500

Prefer something off brand? Show up the Big 3 with this 1928 Nash that could be yours for less than five grand. The seller doesn’t offer much information other than saying the six-cylinder runs with a little effort. That could mean a lot of different thing, but key word for this list: runs. Find this Nash car for sale in Maine!

1939 GMC AFKX 6×6 Military COE – $9,500

Whoa! This thing looks like it’s been through a war! Maybe it has, given the seller’s claim that it’s a military vehicle. This listing is Courtesy Iron City Garage and they actually offer an hour long YouTube video about getting it up and running after who knows who long! Watching this thing roll is quite a spectacle. Check out the Pittsburgh Craigslist listing for full details!

1927 Pontiac Landau – $7,995

The green interior on this vintage Pontiac is awesome! It’s a well documented, three owner car that comes with its original sales literature. Featuring an inline six and a three speed on the floor, as well as suicide rear doors and a rare roll-up windshield, this is one prewar car for sale that should not be overlooked. Find it on Craigslist in New Hampshire for under $8,000!

1926 Durant Star Car – $10,000

If you’re unfamiliar, William Durant is the co-founder of General Motors and Chevrolet. After getting kicked out of his own company (twice), he’d go on to start a new make which he slapped his own name on. That’s what we have here! Unfortunately, the seller doesn’t offer any information about the vehicle other than saying it’s completely restored and runs great. That’s good enough to earn it a spot in this list. If it all checks out, this is a pretty solid deal and a great alternative to a Model T! Find this classic car for sale near Las Vegas.

1941 Plymouth Country Deluxe – $8,500

This appears to be a fun cruiser and certainly not a wallet bruiser. It’s by no means perfect aesthetically but the seller states it has a new electric fuel pump, gas tank, break lines, exhaust, and gas lines. The rare visor and fender skirts are included, topping off this vehicle’s excellent stance. Drive this classic Mopar for sale home from Denver!

BONUS CAR

We capped the price on this list at $10K and said the cars had to run, but I stumbled across one ride that just barely missed the cut. Let’s take a look.

1930 Chrysler 77 – $9,000

This vintage Chrysler 77, named such because of it’s supposed 77 mile per hour top speed, hasn’t had its six cylinder running in about two decades, but the motor still turns. While the more powerful and luxurious Chrysler models of this era tend to command big bucks, you can snag this example for under $10K. It appears quite complete and perhaps with a little work, you’re sure to have one of the more unique cars at the car show. It’s located south of Seattle

and appears to be in good company.
