2017 – Nissan Introduces the Signal Shield Concept

In 2017, Nissan introduced a concept feature called the Signal Shield, designed to combat distracted driving. Built into the center armrest, the system functioned as a Faraday Cage, blocking all incoming and outgoing signals from a smartphone placed inside. The idea was simple but effective—remove the temptation of notifications and calls while driving. While it never became a widespread production feature, it highlighted growing concerns about smartphone distraction and the auto industry’s search for solutions.
