On this day in 1947, Packard celebrated a major milestone with the production of the one millionth Packard automobile. Founded in 1899, Packard had long been one of America’s premier luxury car manufacturers, known for its engineering excellence and refined craftsmanship. Reaching the one-million mark underscored the brand’s success during the early decades of the automotive industry, particularly as it emerged from World War II. Though Packard would ultimately fade from the market by the late 1950s, its legacy as a builder of high-quality, prestigious vehicles remains strong among collectors today.

In a surprising move that bridged Detroit and Italy, Chrysler acquired Lamborghini on April 23, 1987. At the time, Lamborghini was struggling financially, and Chrysler saw an opportunity to expand its global footprint while adding a high-performance halo brand to its portfolio. Under Chrysler’s ownership, Lamborghini developed the Diablo, one of the most iconic supercars of the 1990s. Although Chrysler eventually sold the company in 1994, the partnership remains one of the more unusual chapters in automotive history.
