In 1975, Richard Hollingshead, the inventor of the drive-in movie theater, passed away. Hollingshead opened the world’s first drive-in theater in Camden, New Jersey, in 1933 after experimenting with projection setups in his own driveway. The concept quickly became deeply connected to American car culture, especially during the 1950s and 1960s, when drive-ins evolved into social hubs for teenagers, families, and car enthusiasts alike. Though many drive-ins have disappeared, they remain one of the most nostalgic symbols of mid-century automotive life.
